A Holiday in the Hospital

When the clock struck midnight on Christmas Eve, I was in a triage room of the emergency room at Waupun Memorial Hospital. I'll spare you all the gory details, but I basically had another attack/episode similar to the ones I wrote about in my previous post. This time, it was the worst one yet and I found myself violently vomiting. So, my in-laws brought me in the the E.R. and I got some morphine for the pain and a CT scan to try to figure out what the problem was. Sure enough, I have gallstones. Long story short, I was able to come back home after a very painful and tiring evening and get some sleep. Even though I only had a half of a dry english muffin for breakfast this morning, I still had another attack that led to more vomiting. So, while my family got to attend the Christmas feast at my husband's aunt's house, I was laying on a couch trying to sleep through the pain.

We are now safe and sound back in our own home and I've eaten next to nothing all day. I plan on calling our clinic right away tomorrow to see when I can get in to see my regular doctor, but based on the increasing frequency and intensity of these attacks, it would appear that surgery is going to be needed. Thankfully, gallbladder removal surgeries are some of the most common procedures done all the time, so I am just looking forward to feeling better soon.

In the meantime, I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas that was free of emergency room visits and vomiting. :)
