Breaking the Habit

Well, the dog destroyed yet another pacifier today so we are left with only one. That lonely pink pacifier was pulled from its home in the car and brought inside for Isaiah's bedtime. Evan and I figured this was maybe a good opportunity to start the process of breaking Isaiah of his nuk, so we decided we wouldn't buy any more. I told Isaiah that this was his last nuk and that he didn't get one in the car anymore and that if he lost this one or if Brian chewed it up, he didn't get one at all anymore. I kid you not....about five minutes later, Isaiah suddenly chucked his nuk on the floor. I quickly grabbed it and hid it.

After a couple minutes, Isaiah reached toward me and said, "Nuk?" I reminded him that he threw it, so he got up and started to look for it, but I didn't give it to him. I figured there's no time like the present and I'm not going to be teaching at all this week, so now is as good a time as any to try to break him of the nuk.

I managed to put Isaiah to bed without his pacifier for the first time!! He reached up and asked for it the second his head hit the pillow, but I reminded him that he threw it away. He fussed for a moment or two, but I just left the room. It looks like he managed to fall asleep without it, but I am dreading the encounter that will have to take place if he wakes up in the middle of the night.

Wish us luck!
