Photoshop Play

I have absolutely no clue how to use Photoshop.  My version is very old, the first version of CS, I think.  Still, I have figured out how to put the date stamps on my photos for my Project Life album thanks to Ali Edwards and Jessica Turner and now I have ventured into the world of "Actions" thanks to The Pioneer Woman!  Now, since my version is so old, her action packs don't work 100%, but I am able to use a couple of them to make pre-designed changes to photos.  For example:

Here is the shot I took straight out of the camera (SOOC).  Pretty good, right?  I love the pop of red in Isaiah's sucker and how it pulls the color out of the art on the wall.  I decided to upload it into Photoshop and see what PW's actions could do.  I used her "Seventies" action and here's what Photshop spat back out at me:

I'm digging it! I love how the colors really make Isaiah's focus on the sucker pop out.  There's just something about it.  The only thing missing to make it the perfect Project Life photo is the date stamp:

Ok, I'm hooked.  I googled "Photoshop CS4" to see if I should be putting it on my birthday list.  It costs more than $600.  So much for that idea.

Anyone have an old copy of CS3 they're willing to sell me for cheap?  I'm dying to learn more!!

Here's another one I did.  First, the SOOC:
Again, a decent shot.  A couple clicks of the mouse to use the "Seventies" action again combined with an edge burn and suddenly it looked like this:
Be still my heart.

Photoshop, this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
