If I Wore Shoes

Mother-in-Law:  I'm giving you money for your birthday to buy shoes.

Me:  Ok, thanks!

MIL:  You're going to have to spend more than $30.

Me:  On ONE pair??!!!

MIL:  *sighs*  Yes, Sarah.

You see, I have a frugality problem.  I'm a fair weather frugalist.  I'll buy the kids stuff at the drop of a hat, but I will hang on to money like a miser when it comes to spending money on myself, especially when it comes to things like clothes and shoes.  My mother-in-law (bless her heart) had finally had enough and gave me money to buy some clothes.  Three months later, when I hadn't spent a dime of it, she took me shopping herself and encouraged me to look at shoes too.  I ran away with my tail between my legs if the price tag was anywhere over $30 and she tried her best to keep her eyeballs firmly planted in their sockets and to keep her hands from lunging for my throat.  Again, bless her heart.  So when my birthday rolled around, we had the above shoe conversation.

I like shoes, don't get me wrong.  Shoes are wonderful.  I love to look at shoes, touch them, drool over them, and imagine what incredible shoes I would wear.....if I wore shoes.  If I wore fancy shoes with stylish clothes to fancy, stylish places I would wear shoes like this:
That little ruffle at the top kills me.  I would feel like having a Cosmo the second I put those beauties on.  But at $298.....they will remain a fantasy.

And don't hate me, but I love these:

Of course, the idea of owning teal pumps with a big ole flower on top is absolutely absurd, but boy are they cute!

Oh sweet heavens.  They have rhinestones on the heel:

Where would I even wear these?  I have no idea, but that's so not the point!

See, Mom in law?  It's not that I don't like shoes.  Really, I do.  It's just that I live in Wisconsin where it snows 9 months out of the year, I have two small children and never go anywhere fancy, and I wear jeans and Old Navy t-shirts 90% of the time.

Although, those teal pumps might like kind of hot with a pair of jeans, a black tank top, and a teal necklace.

Just sayin'.

This is what happens when I'm stuck in the computer lab giving a computer-based exam.  I get bored and blog about shoes.  If you want to read a better blog post about shoes, check out Pioneer Woman's excitement over boots with cuffs.  It's her fault I did all this.  Curse you Pioneer Woman!!!
