Gag Order

Here's the problem with having this blog: People read it.  Most of the time, this is a wonderful thing!  I love that I can ask for help about my toddler's sleep troubles and get a response.  I love being able to share photos, funny stories, or random stuff with all of you.  It makes me feel like someone is actually listening, like my feeling and experiences matter, like I can connect with others.

The problem comes when I desperately want to share how I feel about something that is truly important, but I feel that I can't put my honest opinion out there....because people will read it.  Particular people - people I run into at work, at school, at the grocery store.  I don't want to pretend to believe something I don't, but I also don't want to put myself in the position to lose friendships, get my tires slashed, or hurt my chances at perhaps getting a job down the road.

That's the funny thing about blogging.  We use it as an outlet to share and vent, but every so often we have to check ourselves and realize that everything we publish on the Internet is written in ink and cannot be erased.  In some situations (and political climates), it is sometimes just better to write nothing at all.  It certainly isn't easy to feel like your opinion isn't the "right" one so it is therefore too dangerous to share.  As a matter of fact, it's downright frustrating.

It's like I'm walking on eggshells all the time, including on my virtual home.
