What I Wore Wednesday - Skinny Jeans Edition

One of the popular wardrobe items of the past year that I thought I would never, EVER be able to wear had me frightened off by its name alone:

SKINNY JEANS.

In my head, that meant that these particular pants were by definition only for very skinny people.  Made sense to me!  But then I started seeing more and more people wearing them, normal people even!  I was seeing "skinny jeans" in the stores in size 12, 14, 18!  Ok....so really women can actually wear these things and make them look good?  Interesting.

I went on a quest.  I tried on several pairs of these things and struggled to find some that looked flattering both on my thighs and my butt.  Plus, it was hard for me to get past the whole "tight on my ankles" thing because it went against every grain of fashion wisdom I had ever soaked in from watching What Not to Wear while I nursed a newborn and wore pajama pants and a ratty t-shirt covered in spit up.

Eventually, I found a pair at NY & Company that worked for me and I had them hemmed a bit.  I believe they are the "Curvy Skinny" cut....whatever that means.

Skinny Jeans - NY & Company, Boots - b.o.c. (gifted), Green sweater - The Limited

Same jeans and boots, Sweater and Belt - The Limited

I still have a hard time getting my head around how teeny that top/belt combo makes my waist look.

Same jeans and boots, Blue Sweater - Target, Yellow Infinity Scarf - gift from sister in law

Same jeans, Leopard flats - Target, Striped top - GAP outlet, Feather Necklace - Lisa Leonard Designs

I wore the outfit above to my sister's baby shower.  I think my grandmother was confused.

Same jeans, Comfy boots - Target from a LONG LONG time ago, Pink striped tank - GAP outlet, Brown cardi - Target

Sorry this one is blurry!  This was just a comfy quick outfit for running around with the kids on a cold day.  Comfy comfy comfy but not frumpy frumpy frumpy.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!
